Chancery Division Appeals

In addition to its first instance jurisdiction, judges of  the Chancery Division hear appeals of the following principal types:

Mr. Justice Barling is also President of the Competition Appeal Tribunal which hears appeals and follow-on claims for damages under the Competition Act and the Communications Act 2003 and also judicial reviews of merger and market investigation decisions under the Enterprise Act 2002.  All Chancery judges have been appointed chairmen of this tribunal.

Mr. Justice Warren is the first President of the Finance and Tax Chamber of the Upper Tribunal of the Tribunal Service with effect from April 2009. All High Court judges are judges of the Upper Tribunal but may only sit at the request of the Senior President of Tribunals with the consent of the Lord Chief Justice. It is expected that Chancery Division judges will sit regularly in the Finance and Tax Chamber.

More detailed guidance on appeals can be obtained from the High Court Appeals Office. The office can be contacted on 020 7947 7383/7354.
