The Coalition Government has responded to the Constitution Committee's report on the Fixed-term Parliaments Bill.
Equality Impact Assessment for the Parliamentary Voting System and Constituencies Bill.
In elections to the House of Commons, an individual is elected from a Parliamentary constituency to serve as the Member of Parliament. This can be done either by the current voting system known as First Past The Post (FPTP), or by the Alternative Vote (AV) system. This note describes the operation of the two systems.
The Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister set out the Coalition's programme of policies over the next five years to "rebuild the economy, unlock social mobility, mend the political system and give people the power to call the shots over the decisions that affect their lives". This information includes the Programme for Government and Agreement for stability and reform.
