Schools wanting to become an academy will need to follow the steps outlined in the guidance document, which is available to download in the How to become an academy page.
Academies are publicly funded independent schools, free from local authority and national government control. Other freedoms include setting their own pay and conditions for staff, freedoms concerning the delivery of the curriculum, and the ability to change the length of their terms and school days. Schools can register their interest in becoming an academy by completing and submitting an online registration form.
