Recruitment at the Driving Standards Agency

At the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) we have two types of employees; administrative and operational.

Administrative roles

These roles are varied in terms of grades, duties and specialisms. We have roles which start at a supporting level right through to senior management, based in any of our four main administrative centres; our headquarters in Nottingham, area offices in Cardiff and Newcastle (including a contact centre in Newcastle) and our training establishment in Cardington, Bedford. 

Operational roles

This is our examining workforce. The bulk of these are our driving examiners, but we also have a number of management grades on the operational side of the business. These workers are based throughout our test centres nationwide. 

Recruitment at DSA

We use a variety of processes depending on the vacancy we are seeking to fill.

On the administrative side we can use a combination of application shortlist, assessment centres and competency-based interviews.

For our operational staff we use more practical exercises such as the theory and hazard perception test, and special driving tests, along with an interview. More information about driving examiner recruitment can be found by clicking the link on the left of this page.
