Hull

Hull, based on the north bank of the Humber Estuary, is part of the largest ports complex in the UK, handling 16% of all UK's sea-bourne trade with excellent short-sea trade links with Europe, Scandinavia and the Baltic States.

The city has become a key location for logistics and shared services, renewable energy, food, healthcare and chemicals industries, and is home to a significant number of global companies. These include BP Chemicals, BAE Systems, McCain Foods, Conoco Philips and some of the leading names in healthcare including Smith & Nephew, Seven Seas and Reckitt Benckiser, who all operate multi-million pound operations from Hull.

It also has a strong manufacturing tradition and houses one of the largest chemical bases within the UK, situated around the Humber ports.

The region accounts for 20% of the UK’s natural gas landings and has the largest cluster of power stations, including the UK’s largest, Drax. The Humber estuary has been identified as one of only 20 regions in world suitable for tidal power generation and is also the located close to 3 of the largest Round 3 offshore wind farms.
 
Hull has an extremely diverse economic base, which is a key attraction for incoming businesses, and has benefited from billion pound investments into its regeneration – transforming the city. The average salary in Hull is also 22% lower than the UK average.
