Rolls Royce

One of the most respected engineering companies in the world. They opened their "Factory of the Future with Boeing" in the region 2008 to house the latest manufacturing equipment and production capabilities. They are set to open their civil nuclear factory in South Yorkshire to directly supply the construction of nuclear power stations. This development is set to attract in excess of £70m investment from Rolls Royce and supported by £6m of funding from Yorkshire Forward.

Siemens VAI Metals Technologies

Engineering giant Siemens, which exports more than £1bn of revenues internationally every year, moved their UK corporate headquarters to Yorkshire in 2010. They’re one of the world's leading engineering and plant-building companies with innovative power for the iron and steel industry.

Corus Engineering Steels

Based in Rotheram, CES are one of the largest producers of engineering steels in Europe. Their products are used for manufacturing precision components by the aerospace, automotive, energy related and specialist mechanical engineering industries.

Doncaster’s

Doncaster's in Sheffield are a leading international engineering group that manufactures precision components and assemblies for the aerospace, industrial gas turbine, automotive and petrochemical markets. The group excels in working with alloys and metals that are difficult to shape and form.

Firth Rixon

As a leader in the manufacture and forging of rings, primary loop pipework, and safety pipework and metal products, Firth Rixson is a ‘one stop shop’ for original equipment manufacturers.

Outokumpu

In 1992 British Steel Stainless merged with the Swedish firm Avesta (as in Avesta Municipality) to form Avesta Sheffield, and in 2001 merged with Outokumpu, making it the third largest stainless steel producing company in the world. They have been delivering speciality stainless steel parts for nuclear projects around the world for the past 45 years.

BAE Systems

With a Global Combat Systems site based in Leeds, the international defence and aerospace company is a major player in the land sector and deliver world-beating products and next generation systems technology.

TWI

TWI based at the Advanced Manufacturing Park houses one of the world’s largest Friction Stir Welding machines.

Dormer Tools

Part of the Swedish-based Sandvik Group, Dormer Tools have built a 20,000 sq ft state of the art facility at the innovative, world-class location on the boundary of Sheffield and Rotherham.

URSA

One of Europe’s largest insulation manufacturers invested more than £66 million in the South Humber Bank after choosing Yorkshire and Humber as the location for their first UK plant.

Davy Markham

Acquired by £1bn turnover Indian firm HDO in early 2010, DavyMarkham design, manufacture, fabricate and machine heavy and complex engineering components and assemblies. Their workshops, situated in Sheffield are unique in Western Europe, in terms of capacity and capabilities for heavy fabrications and machined components. It is because of this that Rolls Royce have chosen the Advanced Manufacturing Park on the Sheffield/Rotherham border as the site for their new nuclear build facility.

A leading British distributor of electronic components supporting millions of engineers and purchasing professionals globally.

National Health Service (NHS)

The largest centralised healthcare system in the world is the fourth largest employer in the world, with an annual budget in excess of £100billion. The Department of Health, who run the NHS have their main office at Quarry Hill, Leeds.

Swann Morton

Founded in Sheffield, the home of stainless steel in 1932, Swann-Morton have become a world leader in the manufacture of surgical blades, scalpels and handles and now export to over 100 countries worldwide.

Smith & Nephew

Founded in Kingston upon Hull in 1856, this medical devices company are famous for developing the Elastoplast in 1928. They now have annual turnover of around £3 billion.

Johnson & Johnson DePuy International

Founded 1895 in Warsaw, Indiana and now owned by Johnson & Johnson, DuPuy is a franchise of orthopaedic and neuroscience companies and has a base in Leeds.

B. Braun Melsungen AG

The German medical and pharmaceutical company, who employ over 30.000 employees in more than 50 countries, chose Sheffield, in the South of our region for the location of their UK Headquarters.

Covance

Covance Inc. from New Jersey USA is a Contract Research Organisation (CRO) providing drug development testing services. They provide the world's largest central laboratory network and their Europe/Asia Pharmacometrics Centre is in Leeds.

Parexel International

For two decades have played a key role in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device industries by partnering with clients to accelerate time-to-market, control development costs, reduce risk, and maximize return on investment. They have offices in 36 countries worldwide, with a base in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

Piramal Healthcare Ltd

Based in Huddersfield, the world’s leading pharmaceutical manufacturing company offers drug development services to small, virtual and big pharmaceutical companies.

Novartis

A world leading pharmaceutical manufacturer, the company has invested over £600 million in the Grimsby chemicals manufacturing site over the last 15 years and employs over 500 people.

Reckitt Benckiser

The British global consumer goods company, making and marketing home, health and personal care products. The Hull facilities house one of their biggest global R&D centres, as well as a major global health care manufacturing plant, employing over 1000 people.

Thornton & Ross

Founded in 1922, Thornton & Ross Ltd is the largest independent pharmaceutical manufacturer in the UK and is expanding rapidly. From a base in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, they develop, manufacture and supply healthcare products.

Dr Reddys

Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd. trading as Dr. Reddy's were founded in 1984 and have become India’s second biggest pharmaceutical company. They have a major UK facility in Hull.

YFM Group

The YFM Group have their headquarters in Leeds and for the past six consecutive years they have been the UK’s largest provider of risk capital for SME’s.

First Direct

First Direct was formed on 1 October 1989 by Midland Bank and was the first 24 hour banking call centre in the Uk and has famously never closed since launch. How owned by global giant HSBC, when they acquired Midland Bank in 1992.

Irwin Mitchell’s

Sheffield based Irwin Mitchell's are one of the largest law firms in the UK with over 100 partners employing 2100 people at 7 UK locations.

DLA Piper

DLA Piper the UK's 5th top legal firm and has offices based in Leeds and Sheffield. They are the UK's second highest turnover legal company (MINT).

Pinsent Masons

Pinsent Masons rank in the top 100 law firms globally and the top 15 in the UK. They are the result of several mergers including Simpson Curtis, a Leeds based law firm in 1995.

Addleshaw Goddard

With offices in Leeds, law form Addleshaw Goddard is ranked 7th in the UK according to the number of FTSE 100 Clients.

TSYS

Total System Services, Inc, commonly referred to as TSYS are one of the world’s largest providers of outsourced payment services and are based in Columbus, USA. Their European headquarters are in York, North Yorkshire.

ICICI Bank UK Plc

ICICI Bank UK Plc, a wholly owned subsidiary of ICICI Bank Ltd, India’s largest private sector bank, opened its ninth branch across Britain in the City of Leeds.

Handelsbanken

As one of Sweden’s largest banks, Handelsbanken has over 700 branches across Europe and a high concentration of branches in Yorkshire and Humber.

Provident Financial

Bradford based Provident Financial are one of the UK’s leading suppliers of personal credit products to the non-standard lending market. Established in 1880, the company serve over two million customers through a network of more than 300 branches. administrative offices and call centres.

KPMG

KPMG in Leeds provides a professional home to 25 partners and over 700 staff, advising quoted and non-quoted companies across Yorkshire including Persimmon Homes, WM Morrison, HBOS and Asda-Walmart.

Ventura

Ventura, the Leeds-based outsourcing company has over 8,000 employees and 2 large scale contact centres in the UK, along with operations in India.

Arla

Arla Foods UK plc have their head office based in Leeds and are home to some of the UK’s leading dairy brands including Cravendale, Lurpak and Anchor. Processing over two billion litres of milk a year Arla continues to be one of the UK’s leading dairy companies and a supplier of fresh liquid milk and cream to the top seven retailers.

Young’s Seafood

Young's Seafood Ltd have their headquarters on the region’s East coast in Grimsby. They produce and distribute frozen, fresh, and chilled seafood, supplying approximately 40% of all the fish eaten in the United Kingdom every year and a turnover in excess of £300m a year. They’re also a major player in the European seafood industry and owner of sister company, Findus AB, based in Malmö, Sweden.

Nestlé

Global giant Nestlé, who operate in 86 countries and employ nearly 283,000 individuals have their confectionary headquarters in York, as well as a major distribution centre and its chocolate Product Technology Centres. The region is also home to 3 manufacturing sites, based in York, Castleford and Halifax.

Coca Cola

Coca Cola's Wakefield site is the largest general soft drinks factory in Europe and produces over 1,000,000 cans a day along with the fastest 2-litre bottle production line in the world, producing over 30,000 bottles per hour. Over the past 20 years Coca Cola have invested £240m in this production factory, located right at the junction of both main national motorways, the M1 and M62.

AarhusKarlshamn

AarhusKarlshamn operates a processing plant on King George Dock and imports and processes edible oils to produce a range of products including cooking oils, specialist oils and ice-cream fats. The refinery processes over 500,000 tonnes and is the largest single-site operation in Europe exporting to over 30 different countries.

McCain Foods

Established in 1965, McCain Foods GB leads the UK retail and food service industries in frozen potato products such as french fries, potato specialties, appetizers and pizza. The region is home to two of only 5 UK manufacturing sites, one in Hull and the other in Scarborough, both located close to ports.

R&R Ice Cream

R&R Ice Cream based in Northallerton, near York is Europe’s largest ice cream manufacturer. With seven production plants right across Europe creating a vast range of quality products, they produce the entire ice cream range for Nestlé in the UK, Landliebe ice cream for the German market and the Zielona Budka range in Poland.

Unilever

Global giant Unilever, behind some of the world’s most well known brands such as Wall’s Ice Cream, Hellman’s, Knorr, Flora, Findus, Elmlea and Marmite have production facilities in the region.

SevenSeas

Seven Seas is the number-one supplier of vitamins, minerals and supplements in the UK and is also present in more than 100 countries worldwide. Their head office is located in Hull.

Northern Foods

Northern Foods specialise in producing convenience foods for many of the UK’s supermarkets, as well owning many famous brand such as Fox’s Biscuits and Goodfella’s pizzas. They moved their headquarters to Leeds in 2005.

John Smiths

John Smith's is a brewery founded in 1758 by John Smith at Tadcaster in North Yorkshire and now owned by Heineken. Brews roughly 3 million barrels of beer per year, the production of the famed UK brand Newcastle Brown Ale is also being moved to this location.

Mumtaz Group

Indian cuisine group founded in Bradford and now exporting around the world. Starting as one restaurant, the group also has a food processing segment known as Mumtaz Food Industries and has even claimed to have served Queen Elizabeth II.

Wal-Mart-Asda

The second largest supermarket chain in the UK with 150,000 employees. They became a subsidiary of the American retail giant Wal-Mart, the world’s largest retailer in 1999. Their headquarters are in Leeds.

Morrisons

Originally founded in 1899 as an egg and butter stall in Bradford, they are now the fourth largest supermarket chain in the UK, with 420 superstores.

BP

Their chemical manufacturing site at Saltend near Hull plays an important role in the global chemical industry as well as being the global centre for Research & Technology. It’s also the largest single producer of acetic acid in Europe, producing approximately half a million tonnes annually.

Syngenta AG

A large global Swiss agribusiness company which notably markets seeds and pesticides. Their manufacturing facility in Huddersfield employs over 300 people and produces crop protection products that are sold worldwide.

Millennium Inorganic Chemicals

A wholly-owned subsidiary of global giant Cristal since 2007, the Stallingborough site is the largest-volume TiO2 facility in Europe with a capacity of 150,000 tonnes per year. They are also the world’s second-largest producer of titanium dioxide (TiO2).

Yara International ASA

Norwegian-based company which is the world's largest producer of nitrogenous mineral fertilizer. The manufacturing, storage and distribution site at Yara Pocklington is the global centre for the development and production of the YaraVita range of foliar and micronutrient fertilizers.

Croda International

A global leader in specialty chemicals, sold to a wide range of markets, from Personal Care to Health Care; Crop Care to Polymers and Coatings. The European headquarters is based in Goole, East Yorkshire.

Conoco Phillips

Their refinery based in the Humber is one of the most sophisticated refineries in Europe. It is a fully integrated facility that produces a high proportion of transportation fuels, such as gasoline and diesel fuel.

Total SA

Owners of the Lindsey Oil Refinery that processes approximately 10,000,000 tons of crude oil per year, or 200,000 barrels per day via two pipelines. Crude oil is imported via two pipelines, connecting the 1,000-metre jetty five miles away at Immingham Dock, to the refinery. The Immingham Power Station, owned by ConocoPhillips, is next door to the north, which provides the electricity and heat for the fractionation processes.

DuPont

Currently the world's second largest chemical company in terms of market capitalisation. Currently having a £400 million biorefinery, built in our region in a partnership with Vivergo BP and Associated British Foods. They’ve also joined forces with BP to form Kingston Research Ltd, which will focus on the commercialisation of advanced biofuel technology, at a £25m purpose-built development and demonstration facility near Hull.

Nippon Gohsei (UK)

Nippon Gohsei (UK) Limited opened their £65m facilities for producing EVOH at Saltend, near Hull in 2004. They are the biggest single-line plant in the world and they choose our region because of its excellent access to raw material supplies.

BTL

Shipley based BTL is a leading UK owned e-Assessment development and delivery company. BTL work with the largest assessment organisations in the UK including edexcel, the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) and Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA) - the largest of England’s examination boards

Kineo

Based in Sheffield, Kineo are an e-learning company and have worked with global brands including Tesco on an Online Academy, a new learning portal which would eventually serve the learning needs of over 400,000 staff across Tesco's global businesses.

Disq

Disq have expertise in turning training courses into e-learning courses. Recently, Disq worked with the University of York's IT Academy who wanted to turn an already-proven residential course on IT Networking into an e-learning package. The result is IT Essentials for Business which is a highly graphical training course of lessons and practical applications.

Line Communications

Sheffield based Line Communications are recognised by the British Computer Society as the market leader in bespoke e-learning content development.

Pace plc

With their headquarters in Saltaire, near Bradford in West Yorkshire, Pace are now acknowledged as the world’s largest maker of TV set-top boxes.

Jennic

Founded in 1986, Jennic are a semiconductor company, with their headquarters in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. The company develops a range of wireless microcontrollers that support low-power wireless standards.

Team17

Team17 Software is a video game company based in Ossett, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom. They are best known for developing the Worms series of games along with other global hits titles such as Superfrog and the Alien Breed series.

Polestar Group

Europe's leading independent printing company, the Sheffield site has the production capacity for over 1.5 billion A4 pages per week.

Hallmark

International greetings cards group Hallmark Cards plc has invested £12.2m in a state-of-the-art warehousing and distribution facility in Yorkshire. Set to revolutionise the UK greeting cards sector it will give customers, including Yorkshire retail giants Asda and Morrison’s, a more efficient service while also allowing for future growth.

WANDisco

WANdisco is a leading provider of distributed software development solutions used by Fortune Global 1000 companies such as BT, Dell, Cisco, Honda, NTT and Motorola. The WANdisco European head office is in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

Powerfuel

Powerfuel Power Limited is part of the Powerfuel plc Group of Companies and is an independent power generation company formed to develop a power station adjacent to Hatfield Colliery at Stainforth in South Yorkshire. They plan to construct the world's first large scale integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC), near zero emissions power station with carbon capture capability in two phases.

Conoco Phillips

ConocoPhillips, the international energy corporation is actively pursuing methods to advance CCS technology, and is progressing development of several commercial-scale project opportunities. They operate the Immingham Combined Heat and Power plant in the East of our region.

National Grid

The National Grid is the high-voltage electric power transmission network in Britain, connecting power stations and major substations and ensuring that electricity generated anywhere in Great Britain can be used to satisfy demand elsewhere. They are exploring opportunities to apply their expertise in gas pipelines to Carbon Capture & Storage and developing networks where clusters of power stations or other heavy industry adopting CCS use the same pipeline infrastructure. Yorkshire and Humber is the largest cluster of CO2 emitters in the UK.

Drax Ltd

The owner of Britain's biggest coal-fired power station has embarked on feasibility studies into the use of carbon capture and storage after joining talks with the regional development agency to help develop its £2bn carbon cluster project.

Sulzer Pumps

One of the world's leading pump manufacturers. The Leeds based factory has been designing, manufacturing and testing some of the world’s largest and most powerful pumps for nearly thirty years. With an international reputation for technical excellence the pumps are used widely in the Oil & Gas, Hydrocarbon Processing, Power Generation, and Metals markets.

Corus

Corus is one of the UK's largest integrated engineering service organisations. Corus Long Products supplies plates, sections, wire rod and semi-finished steel to a number of different markets including construction, stockholding, shipbuilding & engineering, energy, foundations and wire drawers.

Doosan Babcock

Doosan Babcock designs, supplies and constructs advanced steam generation technology for the power industry. They develop some of the cleanest, most efficient coal-powered plants in the world and are also a leading energy services company operating in the thermal power, nuclear, oil & gas and petrochemical industries.

Areva

One of the two main nuclear power station developers in the UK, with operations in close proximity to Yorkshire and Humber. Areva are a founding member of the NAMRC in South Yorkshire.

Westinghouse

One of the two main nuclear power station developers in the UK, with operations in close proximity to Yorkshire and Humber. Westinghouse Electric Company provides fuel, services, technology, plant design, and equipment for the commercial nuclear electric power industry. Westinghouse are a founding member of the NAMRC in South Yorkshire.

Corus

Corus is one of the UK's largest integrated engineering service organisations. A world leader in the supply of nuclear waste transport, pressure vessels, tanks, and fuel tanks the company is actively seeking to develop processes and solutions for the nuclear industry. Engineering steels are produced at Rotherham using the electric arc furnace method.

Grimley Smith Associates Ltd

Grimley Smith Associates is an engineering consultancy that provides comprehensive design, and project management services to the energy, chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Their head office is located in Brigg, North Lincolnshire, in the South of our region.

Weir

Weir group supply the existing and future nuclear industry with a range of pumps including the environmentally critical flue gas desulphurization pumps. The Weir Power & Industrial Emerging Markets Headquarters is based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

Cape

Cape is a leading and the longest serving provider of essential support services, both in the UK, and internationally to customers primarily in the energy and natural resources sectors. They have headquarters in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Clients include Drax, British nuclear fuels, BP, ConocoPhillips and EDF.

Redhall group

With their headquarters in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, the Redhall group consists of seven niche engineering service businesses operating on an international basis. Principle markets include nuclear, oil and gas and defence.

ATI Allvac

They have ‘life of station’ contracts to supply the rod and bracing materials for the AGR reactors and the capability to supply the high integrity forgings necessary for new build nuclear reactors. ATI Allvac employs circa 300 people in Sheffield and are one of the few nickel alloy and titanium alloy processors in the UK.

Corus Engineering Steels

Corus have two major steel plants in the Region. The integrated steel plant in Scunthorpe is one of the largest in Europe, producing 4.5 million tonnes per annum from four blast furnaces. Steel plate for towers is an increasing part of their output. The profile steel plant in Rotherham produces engineering steels for manufacturing precision components by the aerospace, automotive, energy related and specialist mechanical engineering industries.

Cooper & Turner Ltd

Cooper & Turner Ltd supply the wind turbine manufacturers with the specialist fasteners needed to assemble the wind turbines. These fasteners are large, made from specialist steels to very tight tolerances and made to the clients exact design.

AG Windpower

Based in Sheffield, they specialise in wind turbine erection, maintenance and training. With experience of a wide range of megawatt class wind turbines they deliver services worldwide for the industry’s market leading developers, operators, manufacturers, and consultants.

Collet Transport

The movement of very large structures such as nacelles and towers, which weigh 100’s of tonnes, and blades that can be up to 50m in length require special vehicles and exceptional skills. Collets have opened a dedicated facility in Goole to handle large wind industry structures and transporting them to difficult and remote locations.

David Brown

An engineering company based in Huddersfield, won recently won a contract to supply 160 tonne gearboxes to an offshore wind farm off the North East coast. David Brown is currently working on the 10 MW prototypes which they will deliver to the U.S. wind turbine manufacturer, Clipper, by 2011.

Grontmij

A multi disciplinary environmental and engineering consultant, with its UK Headquarters in Leeds. Grontmij employs circa 300 people locally with strengths in wind farm design and impact assessments and has a 15 year track record in offshore wind projects across the UK and Europe.

BP DuPont

Energy industry giant BP and sustainable science solutions company DuPont have joined forces to form Kingston Research Ltd, which will focus on the commercialisation of advanced biofuel technology, at a £25m purpose-built development and demonstration facility at BP’s Saltend site, near Hull.

Prosper De Mulder

Doncaster-based animal waste rendering firm, who are investing £12m to create a state-of-the-art anaerobic digestion (AD) plant.

Greenergy

Greenergy owns and operates a biodiesel plant in the port of Immingham on the East coast of England with a capacity of 200,000 tonnes/228 million litres a year. Greenenergy are the largest and most experienced supplier of biofuel in the UK and have supplied more than a third of all the biofuel sold in the UK since 2005.

Drax Ltd and Siemens Project Ventures

Drax and Siemens Project Ventures plan to jointly develop three dedicated biomass-fired renewable energy plants in the UK. On completion the biomass facility will be the largest in the world and generate the most Biomass energy in the UK.

Vivergo fuels

Vivergo fuels £200m facility being built by BP in partnership with DuPont and Associated British Foods will produce second generation biofuels at the Saltend site near Hull.

Lunar Energy

Based in Hull, Lunar Energy are collaborating with Rotech Engineering to harness tidal power and have recently won a major contract in South Korea.

Pulse Tidal

Based in Hull, Pulse Tidal is a collaboration between IT power, CIC Omec, BMT Renewables, Econnect Seanergy and the University of Hull, to run a 100kW demonstration tidal device on the Humber estuary. It is now feeding electricity to the south bank of the Humber, making it the first UK industrial power consumer to take a direct feed from tidal power.

Neptune Renewables

They are currently developing two 2nd generation, commercially focussed tidal and wave technologies; a tidal stream power device and a shallow water wave power device.

Vireol

This UK based company are building the UK’s third largest bioethanol refinery in Grimsby to produce 200 million litres of bioethanol a year. The plant is due to come online in 2013.
