Who we are


Here are some key facts about the Department:

Staff

The Department has around 2,700 staff

In addition, around 500 people work for UK Trade & Investment in the UK

Our network of partner organisations includes five executive agencies employing around 6,300 staff

Ministers

Our Secretary of State is Rt Hon Dr Vince Cable MP, supported by a team of Ministers

Management team

Our Permanent Secretary is Martin Donnelly, supported by a senior management team

Budget

The Department's budget for 2010/11 is £18.6 billion reducing to £14.6 billion by 2014/15 under the Spending Review.

Locations

Our staff locations include London, Sheffield, Billingham, Cardiff, Darlington, Glasgow, Manchester, Nottingham, Runcorn, Swindon and Watford.

Structure

The Department is structured into eight management groups: Business and Skills; Economic and Policy Analysis; Market Frameworks; Finance and Commercial; Legal, People and Communications; Knowledge and Innovation; Shareholder Executive; UK Trade & Investment.

BIS is supported by a wide range of organisations in delivering its strategic priorities. Our network of partner organisations (Partners) provide services, information and advice to the Department and directly to a wide range of people and organisations.
