Sainsbury Supermarket, Deal

Sainsbury Supermarket, Deal

The Sainsbury's store front has a soft appearance that reflects local character, showing sensitivity to the difficulties of locating a supermarket in an urban context. Designed by Lifschutz Davidson.

Sainsbury’s in Deal is a medium sized supermarket, adjacent to the railway station. Its location on the edge of central Deal was linked to the local town centre development strategy to increase the car parking space available to shoppers close to the main road. At the same time, its specific location is close enough to the town centre for easy pedestrian access. The store also benefits from access by bus.

The store reflects the client's strategy to refine supermarket design.

The key design contribution of the Deal store is its approach to the external appearance of the supermarket, with its focus on contextual appropriateness and fine detailing in respect of visual impact on the townscape. It also promotes more user-friendly interior design for supermarkets, with its provision for natural light to the front of the store.
