Term Definition
Advocate / Representative A person who may speak on your behalf either in writing or orally.
Assured Tenancy A tenancy given for a property let in the private sector on or after 15 January 1989
Clerk/Case Officers The administrative staff who deal with correspondence and if appropriate, the collection of fees.
CLG Communities and Local Government
Directions A document containing specified steps to ensure that all necessary information about the case is provided.
EDMO Empty Dwelling Management Orders
Fast Track Process which aims to move the case to hearing within 10 weeks of receipt.
HMO Houses in Multiple Occupation
Inspection An internal/external look at the property concerned
Jurisdiction Authority to deal with the matter.
Landlord A person or organisation who owns the property.
Leasehold Valuation Tribunal A body of people (some may have legal, surveying or other property expertise) who will look at the matter of the rent dispute for the property.
Leaseholder A person who holds the lease for a property
LHA Local Housing Authority

Paper Determination A decision on a relatively straightforward simple dispute made without a hearing.
Preliminary Hearing A hearing to decide if the Tribunal/Committee has the legal authority to deal with the matter concerned.
