South West
The South West has a tourist industry which contributes £5 billion to the economy each year.
There is a high demand for housing which results in affordability issues, exacerbated by the number of second homes. The major challenge is to embrace the benefits of growth while maintaining the quality of the places that attract development in the first place.

Architecture centres
We fund the following architecture centres:
- The Architecture Centre, Bristol

Promotes quality in design and the built environment in Devon and Cornwall.
We also fund the Architecture Centre Network, a development and advocacy organisation for the architecture centres.
Design South West
Design South West is a strategic alliance of organisations and agencies influencing the quality of the built environment in the South West. It supports the delivery of the ‘design leadership’ programme to local authorities by the two architecture centres, and co-ordinates their work on the programme.
It helps those involved in regeneration to be effective in delivering well-designed buildings and public space through advice, training and showing evidence of the benefits of good design.
Design South West is funded by CABE and Creating:Excellence.
