Delight
The chair of CABE, Sir John Sorrell, argues here for the creation of new kinds of places which will lift our spirits in a time of anxiety.

In this booklet, based on a lecture at London’s Tate Modern in November 2009, he argues that we must not lose focus on quality, despite the pressures of fiscal tightening. This matters above all when it comes to public buildings and spaces, because they are the medium through which we deliver essential services and express our collective values.
What we need is a public sector epitomised by strength of character and sticking to what you believe in, using investment in good design to take us forward into an era of delight.
