New design review panel members announced

3 April 2006

The panellists will help the design review service in its role of offering free expert advice on the design of strategic schemes from across England.

Six new members have been added to CABE's design review panel. The new panellists will help the design review service in its role of offering free expert advice on the design of strategic schemes from across England.

The new members are:

  • Bob Allies - architect and partner in Allies and Morrison
  • Alan Chatham - property developer behind schemes including Brindleyplace and The Mailbox
  • Jim Eyre - architect and partner in Wilkinson Eyre
  • Mark Swenarton - Professor and Head of Architecture, Oxford Brookes University
  • Chris Watts - director of the sustainability consultancy Beyond Green
  • Tony Wyatt - urban design and conservation group manager, Newcastle City Council

Commenting on the appointments, CABE chief executive Richard Simmons said:

'Design review is in the front line of CABE's drive to push up the quality of our built environment. We comment on almost every strategic scheme in England. I'm delighted that, once again, we have been able to select new panellists of the highest calibre, who are so well respected in their fields. In combination with our new commissioners, the new panel members broaden and strengthen the range of expertise available to CABE. This puts us on a good footing to deal with the huge amount of development which will come before the panel in the next few years, and to engage with issues such as sustainable design.'
