London 2012 masterplan praised by CABE and Design for London

1 April 2007

We feel that the plan provides an effective framework for the development of the Olympic park as well as the changes to the site post-2012.

The masterplan for the 2012 Olympics Games site in East London has won the broad support of the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) and Design for London , the Mayor of London's new urbanism and architecture team. CABE and Design for London are represented by an independent panel of design experts, who have reviewed the plans in recent months prior to the formal planning application.

The written comments, sent to the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), praise the enormous amount of work and thought which has gone into the masterplan. CABE and Design for London feel the plan provides an effective framework in which development of the Olympic facilities and Olympic park, as well as the changes to the site post-2012, can take place.

The legacy of the 2012 Games is a central aspect of the masterplan. CABE and Design for London particularly welcome the way that legacy is being addressed so that a good foundation can be laid for future development, and changes to the site can be minimised.

The detailed comments are sent to the ODA for consideration by the Planning Decisions Team, which is charged with ensuring all planning applications meet the ODA's obligation to deliver high quality London 2012 proposals.
