Horticulture week spots black hole in green space

28 February 2006

Leading parks journal Horticulture Week's coverage of the latest CABE Space publication, Urban parks: Do you know what you're getting for your money? shows just how important the issues raised are to the sector.

'Parks teams need to start talking the language of the executive now' said Horticulture Week Editor Kate Lowe. 'Why are we still failing to gather the data that could serve parks departments so powerfully?'.

CABE's report found that many local authorities are unable to say how much money they are spending on parks, or what they are trying to achieve. This is because they have not been given the structures to do so.

Councils need to be able to show that they are effectively managing their resources if they are to be able to make the case for more funding.

CABE wants to hear from other councils to find out if their experience matches the councils in our report. E-mail us with your experience and your answer to the six questions at the back of the report.
