Booking has opened for next year's urban design summer school. Now in its fifth year, CABE's four-day residential school is the flagship learning initiative for architects, planners, urban designers and anyone whose work influences the design, development and management of the built environment.
CABE is offering a free place to whoever can best capture in a picture and 150 words their favourite place, building or space. The deadline to enter the competition is Thursday 31 January 2008. Book a place at the school at www.udss.org.uk and there is a discount for those who book before the end of February.
The CABE urban design summer school brings together leading lights from the built environment sector and is a combination of keynote speakers, hands-on workshops and visits to inspiring projects in the Tyneside area. Over its five years, the summer school has won a reputation as a dynamic ideas-sharing forum where the students gain valuable new perspectives from professionals with different backgrounds and disciplines. One of last year's delegates described leaving the summer school shell-shocked. "It was the most intensive and useful school / conference / seminar, I have ever attended."
The fee per delegate is £995 with a reduction of £100 for those who book before 29 February 2008.
NewcastleGateshead will provide an apt setting for the summer school - the city's street design has been singled out for best practice by CABE Space and the Grainger Town quarter won best neighbourhood at the recent Academy of Urbanism Awards.
