Setting up other design support services

CABE’s role has often been to support public bodies or local organisations to develop their own longer-term strategies for championing good design.

Beyond our work with architecture and built environment centres,we have helped to set up design review panels for the National Health Service, examining hospitals, and the Home Office reviewing police stations. Bespoke versions of the enabling service in the South West (managed by Creating Excellence), West Midlands (managed by MADE), Scotland (managed by Architecture and Design Scotland) and South Yorkshire (managed by Transform South Yorkshire).

We have also championed design initiatives such as Design Nottingham and North West Leicestershire’s Ourplace programme. Through these programmes, much of CABE’s practice has been fully absorbed into the activities of other organisations and we have therefore been able to widen and deepen our impact.
