Virtual School for Children in Care, Cornwall

The virtual school runs an education project called Boot Up! to engage children in care in projects such as gardening, horticulture, arts activities and construction.

The grant will fund the Eco-techts project, through which young people will work with designer/makers to design and build a neutral non-competitive space for learning. This self-build project will provide a bigger more exciting opportunity, challenging students to understand what makes a sustainable building.

Judges' comments

‘A high quality project proposal with lots of detail and clear and achievable outcomes. We were pleased to see how this project planned to engage a difficult group of students and thought that this small group approach would provide an interesting case study. The variety of outputs e.g. a blog, were also interesting.’
