Swinderby All Saints Church of England Primary School, Lincoln

Pupils suggested that they use the opportunity of the school’s 160th anniversary to investigate the development of their village and school.

The Swinderby through time project will see the pupils investigating the history of buildings in their local area, gathering memories from older local residents and looking at the development of their school. The culmination of the project will be the creation of a series of mosaic panels made from sustainable materials which depict the history of the local area. These will be displayed in the school entrance so they can be appreciated by the whole community.

Judges' comments

One of the reasons we were drawn to this project was that it will help strengthen links between the school and its community. The art output provides an interesting way for the pupils to express their learning from the local historical research. The project also creates a positive and lasting legacy through the creation of the mosaic tiles.'
