Pewley Down Infant School, Guildford
Pewley Down School’s ecoteam made the suggestion of saving an existing timber play house from demolition by repairing and refurbishing it as an eco resource for the whole school community.
Pupils will work with an architect to research and develop features such as a green roof, sustainable insulation and solar powered lighting. Children will have the opportunity to take part in the decoration, fitting out and planting of the green roof in this ‘Eco play house’ project.
Judges' comments
‘We thought this was a detailed and well thought out project with a clear and achievable outcome. We liked the fact that the pupils would produce a built legacy, and the school had already planned how to showcase it to others as an example of good practice in sustainable design.’
