This school engaged pupils in local regeneration, considering how land use changes and how this affects people.

Linking with their geography work, pupils participated in fieldwork and then worked in various disciplines with outside experts to creatively interpret the gathered information. Through learning exercises they built up an archive of historical photographs, maps, films and audio diaries, and showcased these in dance, drama and poetry performances.

Key skills from the new secondary curriculum were developed and some pupils for the first time worked in disciplines such as dance.  ‘It widened the horizons of many pupils, some had never been to the surrounding catchment of school. Pupils were able to explore geography via many different disciplines - they felt the subject came alive.’ Advanced Skills Teacher
