Design at the city and neighbourhood scale

Focused on design issues at the city and neighbourhood scale, using the example of the Holbeck area in Leeds.

17 July 2006, Leeds

West Yorkshire Housing Partnership, an additional recipient of market renewal funding, outlined its housing strategy for the sub-region, followed by presentations by Leeds city architect John Thorpe on design issues at the city scale, Mark Burgess of Leeds City Council on the Holbeck and Beeston area action plan and Irena Bauman of Bauman Lyons Architects on proposals for reconnecting Holbeck back into the city.

CABE presented on Building For Life and Design and access statements. The day was based at the Round Foundry Media Centre in Holbeck Urban Village and site visits were made both to the surrounding Holbeck area and out to Allerton Bywater, where English Partnerships hosted a tour around the emerging development.
