St Peter's Sixth Form College

New sixth form college in Sunderland. Designed by Browne Smith Baker.

We think that the design would benefit from greater simplicity; we are not convinced that the curve in plan and section create huge benefits. The extent of the glazed areas of the façade implies a much grander building than the entrance arrangements suggest.

We think that the impact on the potential future World Heritage Site in minimal, particularly in relation to other recent buildings nearby.

To conclude, we do not regard the design as poor but think that it could be improved significantly by some further work by the design team.
