Southport Pier Pavilion

The steel, glass and aluminium structure of the Southport Pier Pavilion complements the Victorian pier and provides a focal point for visitors throughout the year. Designed by shedkm.

Southport Pier opened in 1860. It remains the country's second longest pier, stretching for more than a kilometre. Although the pier was Grade II listed in 1976, 14 years later the local authority applied for its demolition, a proposal that was only narrowly defeated.

In 1998, it was closed for safety reasons. Two years earlier, Sefton Council and the local Chamber of Commerce and Industry formed the Southport Pier Trust and, by 1999, had successfully raised funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and from the European Merseyside Objective 1 Programme to begin a two-phase restoration programme.
