Involving the CABE enabler from the start

The CABE enabler helped a first time client achieve their aspirations for a well designed and sustainable building.

CABE enablers often become involved in projects when they are already underway, meaning that important decisions are made without the benefit of their advice. However, Huntingdonshire District Council welcomed CABE’s support and the project benefited from strategic advice at an early stage.

Supporting the council to achieve a creative design

As a result of CABE’s support, the client wrote a strong brief, appointed competent and creative architects and helped secure additional funding. This meant that the council’s high aspirations for this innovative building were achieved.

The CABE enabler worked with the council’s team to explore what they needed the building to achieve and helped them understand the importance of a robust brief which included these aspirations. The enabler was praised by the council for helping them articulate their ambitions in a clear brief.

The CABE enabler discussed different ways of procuring a design team, outlined the benefits of a formal competitive selection process , helped them find the most appropriate selection process and gave clear guidance before the interviews. This allowed the council to explore the creativity of the design team and assess their ability to deliver against the brief.

CABE disussed the need for an extra £300,000 with Communities and Local Government. The CABE enabler’s detailed understanding of the project and CABE’s strong relationship with CLG meant that the additional grant money was secured.
