Creative Exchange

St Neots, Cambridgeshire

Background

An innovative building for creative entrepreneurs.

Huntingdonshire District Council wanted an innovation and enterprise centre to fulfil the potential for creative industries in Huntingdonshire and support Cambridge as a regional hub for creative industries.

The council was clear that the building should be highly sustainable, creatively designed and contemporary. It should also meet the needs of businesses, students and the wider community.

The council wanted the building to provide a range of facilities:

  • a central core, with incubator business workspace
  • business support services and workforce development services dedicated to the needs of creative industries
  • highly specialised broadband and communications technology infrastructure
  • training and community facilities.

The proposed site was on the campus of Longsands College, a secondary school specialising in media, technology and the arts. The site was also adjacent to a further education college with a centre of excellence for manufacturing and management and highly regarded photography and design faculties. Both colleges would therefore benefit from the new facilities.
