Birmingham Hippodrome Theatre

The dramatic façade of the refurbished Birmingham Hippodrome Theatre has helped to establish the performing arts centre as a local cultural landmark. Designed by Associated Architects and LDN Architects.

The project, jointly designed by Associated Architects of Birmingham and LDN of Edinburgh, was the fruit of a most unusual collaboration - requested by the client - between the two architectural companies. The purpose of the project was to mark the centenary of the Hippodrome, but also to act as a catalyst for the regeneration of the Entertainment and Chinese Quarter of the City. The scheme skilfully exploits the potential of the existing building and facilities; maximises the utilisation of newly acquired land to the north of the site; and successfully integrates the two.

The project was the result of a unique collaboration between two design practices - Associated Architects and LDN Architects.
