What we have funded

CABE has used public money to fund initiatives that promote the best in architecture, urban design and public space across England.

Building for Life

Building for Life is the national standard for well-designed homes and neighbourhoods. It is led by CABE and the Home Builders Federation. BfL uses 20 Building for Life criteria to assess the quality of new housing schemes and the annual Building for Life awards.

Prime Minister's Better Public Building Award

The Prime Minister's Better Public Building Award recognises excellence in design quality and procurement practices. The prize is made annually to a new building project commissioned by or on behalf of central or local government or by a grant-aided organisation.

Architecture centres

CABE has funded a network of architecture centres in regions across England. Our regional programme has funded activities that inspire young people and communities to get involved in architecture and the built environment and that inspire professionals to prioritise and deliver high quality sustainable design.

In 2008-10, a total of £1.86 million was allocated to 22 organisations.
