World Cup 2018

Yorkshire Forward is encouraging people and businesses in Yorkshire and Humber to support England’s bid to host the FIFA World Cup™ 2018. The Regional Development Agency has backed the inclusion of Leeds and Sheffield in the England 2018 Bid to FIFA, the world’s governing body for football. The final submission of England’s bid to host the FIFA World Cup™ was delivered to FIFA in Zurich on 14 May, and in December 2010 FIFA’s Executive Committee will select the hosts for the 2018 and the 2022 FIFA World Cups.

Hosting the FIFA World Cup™ 2018 will bring a major economic boost to local businesses, generated by visitors staying and spending in the region. It will provide a wonderful opportunity to promote and showcase the Yorkshire and Humber region to millions of people worldwide. Inward investment and the income from thousands of business and leisure visitors will act as a catalyst for regional development, enabling existing infrastructure to be upgraded, and new jobs to be created.
