Flexibility key to better drugs

    They say art imitates life, but I’ve just read about an interesting case of science imitating life. Scientists have created flexible microparticles that mimic red blood cells and could help create more effective drugs for diseases such as cancer.

    Many drugs fail safety tests because they get stuck in the liver, where they can cause serious damage. But with the flexibility of red blood cells, these particles can squeeze in and out of tight spots, including the liver, and move around the body to do their job.
