II.1.5) Short Description of the contract or purchase(s) The Department for Transport is seeking to procure the services of a supplier to (i) Act as Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA) for the Dangerous Goods Division of the Department for Transport (DfT). (ii)Be required to carry out independent measurement of contamination levels on the external surfaces of packages (and their conveyances) used to transport radioactive materials. In addition, the measurement of radiation dose-rates around packages may be requested. The aims of these surveys is to provide independent data to assess whether the regulations covering the transport of radioactive materials are being complied with and whether contamination levels cause harm to persons or the environment. (iii)Provide radiation/contamination monitoring services in support of DfT investigations into incidents involving the transport of radioactive material. The contractor may be required to attend at short notice, the site of an incident anywhere within the UK and carry out such assessments as required in order to assist the investigation and ensure the safety of DfT inspectors.Nuclear safety services.Environmental monitoring other than for construction.
