Trinity Watch
Streets, parking and pedestrianisation
Trinity Watch is very close to town centre but the change in level makes pedestrian and cycle access difficult. A footpath leads to a bus stop within five minutes’ walk, but this could have been shifted west to make it directly visible from Higher Trewidden Road.
A small planting area tended by the occupants is provided in front of each home which forms a privacy zone for the front doors and the windows overlooking the street.
The carriageway is constructed from asphalt and granite kerbstones. This was necessary for the road to be adopted by Cornwall County Council but means that the carriageway is more intrusive than necessary. The scheme was designed prior to Manual for Streets which advocates the use of shared surfaces in these situations.
A high level of car parking (2.2 spaces per home) is sited on plot in front of the houses, in garages in front of the detached houses and in a garage at the end of the cul de sac. Parked vehicles are prominent in the street scene.
