Scalebor Park
Evaluation
This traditional development provides quality dwellings in an exceptional setting. Adjacent woods, playing fields (with a new pavilion paid for by David Wilson Homes) and a sizeable children’s play area, all add to the amenities of the Scalebor Park community.
Two roads, running on either side of the square, do however reduce its value as a safe play area. Car parking also impinges on the central square. The scale of the double garages is in contrast to the scale of rest of the project. However, as planting matures this central area will become much more cohesive.
The elevational treatment of Scalebor Square is reasonably conceived, and is inspired by the proportions and materials of the existing buildings. However, the windows are top hung rather than double hung sashes. This means that when windows are open, the elevational effect is seriously distorted. It should also be noted that where occupants have added net curtains to bathroom windows, this makes the provision of obscured glass - which distorts the look of the facades - unnecessary.
