Norfolk Park Green Homes

Description

Norfolk Park, located a mile to the south east of Sheffield’s city centre, is at the heart of a ten year transformation programme to replace the substandard 1960s housing built during the slum clearances. The area was declining rapidly by the 1980s and in the 1990s grant funding was used to create the Norfolk Park masterplan. Norfolk Park Green Homes is the first part of this plan.

Norfolk Park Green Homes has green credentials, a distinctive appearance and amazing views of Sheffield’s city centre. It offers a mix of affordable homes, from one and two bedroom flats to three bedroom family homes, developed in consultation with local residents.

The design of Norfolk Park Green Homes was underpinned by four principles:

  • create a dense and distinctive place
  • offer a mix of affordable homes from one bedroom flats to family houses
  • create an environmentally responsive development
  • maximise the sweeping views across the valley to Sheffield’s city centre.

The scheme lost some of the original vision following the loss of the original client. The original landscape scheme was not fully implemented, in particular the planned orchards in resident’s back gardens.
