Fulham Island

Design process

The site was bought at auction in 1997 by Fulham Village Ltd - a partnership between the Osborne Group and the Manhattan Loft Corporation. It was bought without planning approval, and was master planned by CZWG architects. CZWG had already worked with Manhattan and provided them with a bold solution in a sensitive situation on the South Bank. Although the contract was design and build, there was a close working relationship between the client and the project team.

Construction was held up by five months for the archaeological investigation of an old settlement beneath the site. The buildings that were retained include some that are Grade II listed. Richard Griffiths Architects were responsible for the refurbishment of the listed buildings.
