DECC is committed to being an open and transparent government department, and aims to ensure that its data is as accessible as possible. We publish information in a variety of ways and in a range of formats. This website contains everything published by DECC, but our data is also available from Data.gov.uk, the CLG Places database, and the ONS Neighbourhood Statistics site among others.
All the energy and climate change statistics we produce are published within the Statistics section of this site; transactional and managerial data is available from these pages about Transparency. We report on progress on policy implementation and project delivery in the What We Do section of the site.
DECC continues to look for ways in which we can develop our range of published data and indicators to help provide greater transparency.

A review of information – a more transparent approach
DECC is undertaking a review of the information that it provides to the public including compiling an inventory of its information assets. We are also working with a wide range of communities to maximise the value derived from our data and improve the transparency of our information, for example:
- Engaging with our analytical and statistical communities to improve how we make our non-personal and non-commercial data more accessible
- Working across business areas and with the public service providers for which we are responsible to ensure transparency is recognised as a key operating principle and information is routinely published
- Reviewing our existing suite of management information to see what can be published
- Committing to make all appropriate datasets available from all new policy and delivery initiatives
Asking for information under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act
DECC is committed to proactively releasing as much data as possible, but we recognise that gaps may exist, so we continue to make information available, wherever possible, under Freedom Of Information and Environmental Information legislation.
If you would like more information, you can ask for this under the Freedom of Information Act (FOI) 2000. Certain categories of information cannot be made available (for example for national security or commercial sensitivity reasons) but if we can we will send you what you ask for. Please be as specific as you can in your request.

Complaints
If you are not satisfied with the response you can request a review by writing to the responding official.
We aim to respond to substantive complaints within 20 working days unless the matter is complex, in which case it may take longer. You will be notified of the target date and we will let you know if any delays appear likely. The review will normally be conducted by a senior manager at Director level.
If you are unhappy with the outcome of a review you can apply to the Information Commissioner, who enforces and oversees the Freedom of Information Act.

DECC's Publication Scheme
This section also represents the Department’s publication scheme, drawn up under the Freedom of Information Act (FOI) 2000.
The purpose of the publication scheme is to set out:
- classes of information we commit to publish as a matter of course
- how this information will be published
- whether the information is available free of charge or on payment
The publication scheme fulfils the requirements of the Information Commissioner as set out in the model publication scheme for FOI public authorities supported by the Commissioner’s definition document for Government departments.
