Sea Your History

A fantastic resource for those interested in 20th century naval history is now live! The Sea Your History website is a great place to discover more about the Royal Navy and Portsmouth Dockyard. Log on now to find out about the lives of 20 Navy’s People, find out about the history of Portsmouth Dockyard and learn about Dockyard Trades. You can also explore the Oral History Gallery and listen to the experiences of ‘Women at Sea’.

The Royal Naval Museum in Portsmouth has been awarded £664,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to develop the Sea Your History project. The project, which will run for three years aims to create an online archive relating to 20th century naval history. Digitising a massive 15,000 items from the collection at the Royal Naval Museum and from the project’s supporting partners (Fleet Air Arm Museum, Royal Navy Submarine Museum, Royal Marines Museums, Royal Navy Fleet Photographic Unit, Mary Rose Trust and the Portsmouth Royal Dockyard Historic Trust), the eight man team will develop a website, three education projects and showcase exhibition. The project will be complete by November 2008.
