Any land or property declared surplus to MOD requirements is handed over to the Defence Estates’ Land Management Services (DE LMS) for disposal in accordance with HM Treasury Guidance (Managing Public Money) – the money raised being an important part of the Defence budget to be reinvested in key priorities.
Having first considered the planning situation, DE LMS disposal staff will sell the property as swift as the market will allow to get the best price reasonably obtainable (i.e. market value), normally through open competition - unless it is required by other Government Departments or public bodies or there are former owner (Crichel Down) considerations.
