Sierra Leone

We no longer produce passports in Sierra Leone.  Applications for first time and replacement passports should still be submitted at our High Commission in Freetown but will be sent to our Regional Passport Processing Centre in Pretoria, South Africa.

Passport fees in Sierra Leone

How to pay

Passport and courier fees are only payable in cash, in Sierra Leone Leones, at our High Commission.  The smallest note we accept is SLL5,000.  We do not accept credit cards.

Timing

If you are renewing your passport you should allow 4 weeks for us to return your new passport to you.  If it is your first British passport application then you should allow at least 6 weeks. If replacing a lost or stolen passport you should also allow at least 6 weeks. Please do not call to check on the progress of your application before this time.

Delivery back to you

Your passport and documents will be returned to the British High Commission Freetown.  We will call you when your passport is ready for collection.

Specific requirements from Sierra Leone

British Overseas Citizen Passports & British Protected Persons Passports

Those renewing the above passports should provide the following mandatory documents with their passport applications:

  • birth certificate;
  • family extract;
  • grandparents extracts (paternal and maternal);
  • personal extract or identity card;
  • father/mother’s passport and birth certificate;
  • any passport you hold

Translations:

All foreign legal documents submitted with a passport application (such as birth/death/marriage certificates, divorce papers, change of name documents, affidavits, etc) should be translated into English by an official translator.  You cannot get a friend or relative to do this for you.

Urgent Travel:

If you need to travel urgently and your normal passport is not available you should contact the British High Commission in Freetown on 076 912606 during office hours or 078124450 in genuine emergencies outside office hours. They may be able to provide you with emergency travel documentation.  Please note they will not be able to answer general passport questions or give information on passport applications in progress (as they are no longer involved in this process).  You should only contact them if you have a need to travel urgently and you will be asked to supply evidence of your need.
