814 Squadron carry out winching to focsle
The attached dramatic photos show the impressive Merlin Helicopter from 814 Naval Air Squadron, currently embarked in Fort George for the AURIGA 10 Deployment, hovering just in front of the Bridge windows whilst practicing winching to focsle with the ship underway. This training scenario allows flight crew to practice this very important routine which is often used to transfer personnel to/from shipping which do not have a dedicated flight deck or for rapid roping boarding of vessels suspected of piracy or drug running.
