About the BBC Food redesign

What's new?

It’s been a long time coming, but we’re finally making some changes to the site that we hope you’ll enjoy. The process of improving the site is far from over, with many new features to be unveiled in the coming months. But we thought we’d get the basic functions out there as soon as we could so that you can play around and let us know your feedback.

Most of the changes and features have been made in response to requests we’ve received from you

Better search with the ability to include or exclude results

Using the improved BBC Food recipe search allows you to sort through more than 12,000 recipes from your favourite BBC programmes. We’ve added:

  • auto-suggested terms to narrow your search criteria easily, plus help with difficult spellings
  • the ability to filter search results according to programmes or chefs you like (or dislike)
  • the ability to filter search results to match your dietary requirements

More pictures of the finished dish

Did we mention we have more than 12,000 recipes? That’s a lot of pictures to take, but we’re trying to add more helpful visuals as we go along. For now we have added:

  • pictures of popular dishes and recipes
  • pictures of ingredients that help with identification and inspiration

TV clips of the recipe

We’ll be adding clips from BBC iPlayer to the recipe page to get you right into the part of the programme where the recipe is demonstrated. We’ll kick off by adding clips from programmes that are available for the entire length of the series so that you can use them for longer.

Better navigation around the site

The links at the top of each page connect you to recipes by chef, ingredient, programme and (coming soon) better pages of inspiration and information on foods by season and special occasion. Links on every ingredient allow you to quickly look up unfamiliar foods to find out more. Recommendations on the right hand side of each recipe page

FAQs

How can I contact a chef or presenter?

Unfortunately, we cannot give out personal contact details for chefs. You can find out more about your favourite chef here.

How do I submit an idea for a programme?

If you have an idea for a programme, you can submit it via the BBC Commissioning website.

How do I find out about an item / supplier I have seen on a show?

We cannot give out any information about products, suppliers, or provide specific recommendations.

Why can’t I find a recipe?

BBC Food is sometimes unable to provide all of the recipes that feature on television programmes. If you cannot find the dish you are looking for in our recipe search or via the programme page then we are unlikely to have it.

How do I re-subscribe to your newsletter?

If you have changed your email address, you will need to unsubscribe, and then re-subscribe to the newsletter here.

How do I appear as a guest on Saturday Kitchen?

Details of how to apply to be a guest on Saturday Kitchen can be found here.

For all other TV shows, please visit the BBC shows website.

Can I use information from the BBC Food site for my school project?

Text and images from the BBC Food site can be replicated as long as it is strictly for personal use, or for acceptable non-commercial use e.g. a school project.

Quick recipe finder

Type the ingredients you want to use, then click Go. For better results you can use quotation marks around phrases (e.g. "chicken breast"). Alternatively you can search by chef, programme, cuisine, diet, or dish (e.g. Lasagne).
