Oil and Gas Data Management Workshop in Aberdeen Hailed a Success
| Date: | 13 Apr 2010 | | Details: | Common Data Access Limited (CDA), the UK oil and gas industry's shared data management service, hailed its recent workshop in Aberdeen a resounding success with delegates reporting significant improvements in their knowledge of data management and the benefits of the networking opportunities offered.
Malcolm Fleming, CDA's chief executive, said: "The oil and gas exploration and production data management workshop held in Aberdeen was the first of a continuing programme of annual events aimed at bringing data managers together to share practice and explore improvements. The feedback received on the event is extremely encouraging and confirms our belief that there are substantial efficiencies to be gained from data management practitioners in the oil and gas industry sharing ideas and best practice.
"The outcome of the event is closely aligned with CDA's 'raison d'etre' which is to aid collaboration to take advantage of economies of scale and add value to data management practices in the UK. This is a great example of the industry taking action to maintain competitiveness in the face of maturity so that the potential of UK's oil and gas resource can be maximised."
Over 50 delegates at the workshop represented a range of oil and gas companies, the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC), the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) and the Expert Center for Information Management (ECIM). Attendees were given the opportunity to explore topics including electronic data management, the exchange of data, ways of benchmarking performance and assessing and certifying competency in and quantifying the value of good data management.
