| Details: | Securing skilled and motivated people in all the industry's operations is critical for the continuing success and sustainability of the UKCS and the global supply chain it contributes to. The Academy is supporting this by establishing collaborative relationships between employers and the organisations that prepare and develop individuals. The Chartered Institute for Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) is the recognised professional development body for supply chain practitioners.
Norman McLennan, Supply Chain and Commercial Issues Manager at Oil & Gas UK said "this is an excellent initiative which seeks to tackle our industry's skills challenge in the discipline of supply chain management".
In a major project being carried out in conjunction with Oil & Gas UK's Supply Chain Managers' forum and CIPS, the Academy is developing a defined and readily accessible, structured education pathway for supply chain practitioners within the oil and gas industry.
Chris Gallagher, Director of Membership and Education at the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply stated that "CIPS were delighted to support the Oil and Gas Sector through this initiative, the Institute is committed to throwing the full weight of its professional development resources behind this partnership." The pathway will have multiple entry points from school leavers at foundation level all the way through to executive diploma. The Academy will be responsible for facilitating and promoting uptake of this pathway via a newly developed online gateway.
Norman McLennan added that "offering a structured pathway for professional development and a flexible qualifications ladder that has multiple entry points is vital to attract new people into the industry. The oil and gas industry is a smart, sustainable career choice both for young and experienced people with supply chain management skill to offer."
The launch of the pathway at Share Fare 10, on November 11th 2008 will see CIPS formally recognised as one of the Oil & Gas Academy's Alliance Partners. |
