Accuracy of contributions report published |
A report published today offers draft guidance on what steps Members should take to correct inaccurate contributions made in Parliament.
In the report by the Standards, Procedures and Public Appointments Committee, a new mechanism is proposed for formally publishing corrections within the Official Report.
Committee convener Gil Paterson MSP said: “It remains the over-riding responsibility of Members and Ministers to ensure the accuracy of their statements in Parliament. This mechanism will enhance transparency when corrections are required.” |

| Committee calls for evidence on Certification of Death Bill |
The Health and Sport Committee has issued a call for written evidence on the Certification of Death (Scotland) Bill.
The bill aims to introduce a new system for scrutiny of medical certificates pertaining to cause of death. It aims to do this by introducing several new measures, such as the creation of medical reviewer and senior medical reviewer posts to review death certificates for accuracy.
If successful, the bill will also ensure that it will be an offence to dispose of a body, or body parts, without authorisation; and, where a person has died out-with Scotland, medical reviewers will be given more control on how that body is handled upon return to this country.

| Committee welcomes NHS senior staff wage freeze |
A report published by the Public Audit Committee has endorsed pay freezes for NHS senior staff and a reduction in management posts, in order to achieve necessary savings.
The Overview of the NHS in Scotland’s performance 2008/09 warns that these and other measures, are required in light of the financial challenges currently facing the NHS.
The committe also highlighted that NHS Boards can only continue to develop new services and fund the capital improvements already agreed, if they reinvest efficiency savings and identify further sources of savings.
Committee convener Hugh Henry MSP added:
"the committee wants to know how the Scottish Government will monitor the impact of projected NHS workplace reductions on quality of care, and ensure that they do not have a detrimental impact on the delivery of front line services.”
