Honours and awards

Our work

Honours

The Cabinet Office manages the UK honours system and is responsible for policy work in this area. We prepare for and deliver the Prime Minister's honours lists published at New Year and on the date of the Queen's official birthday in June.

The UK honours system is open to all and awards recognise the exceptional achievements and service of people from a wide variety of backgrounds.

The Queen's Awards for Voluntary Service

The Cabinet Office also manages the Queen's Awards for Voluntary Service. These awards recognise outstanding achievements by voluntary groups in the community.

We organise and release the list of winners announced in June every year.

Honours Committee Vacancies

The Cabinet Office is seeking to fill three positions. The current Chairs of the Sport and the State Honours Committees are due to step down by the end of the year and a vacancy has also arisen for an independent member of the Science and Technology Honours Committee (due to the retirement of one of its members). Applicants are invited for all three appointments.
