The term His or Her Majestie's Ship (HMS) only entered usage around 1660 under King Charles II's reign. Prior to then the term King's or Queen's Ship was used instead.

The eight Ships in this section cover the progression from sail, to coal fired, oil fired and finally the nuclear age. Most of the articles contain links to pages on the Captains and major Battles each Ship was involved in.
