News in Brief
Colchester medics are 'riding home for Christmas'
Colchester-based medics are undertaking a 5,575km endurance challenge to raise money for SSAFA and Combat Stress, by ‘Riding Home for Christmas’ from Camp Bastion.
The medics will cover the straight line distance from Camp Bastion to Colchester in a non-stop team challenge.
To replicate land and sea on the journey home, they will switch between rowing machines and exercise bikes in the Camp Bastion gym.
The route has been mapped out by the GEO Cell in Camp Bastion, who make all the maps, to ensure accuracy. The whole team will have to maintain a 24-hour rotation with support teams assisting with feeding, water and warm clothes during the nights to complete the challenge in time.
The event will begin on 11 December, and is due to finish in time for lunch in the Camp Bastion cookhouse on Christmas day.
