News feeds

What are news feeds?

News feeds, also referred to as RSS feeds are a popular way of keeping track of the latest updates to your most frequently visited websites.

Websites offering news feeds typically carry a small orange button, often labelled 'RSS' or 'XML': you may well have seen these on BBC News, or on newspaper websites. Using feed reading software you can tell your computer to monitor the feeds of the sites you like. Each time a new item is published, your feed reader will alert you.
