ITE Session: English as an Additional Language - An introductory lecture and workshop - R. Sneddon (2009)

The presentation is designed to be used as a dedicated session, or series of sessions to introduce student teachers and trainees to key issues in teaching English as an additional language. The powerpoint is accompanied by notes for tutors.

It is suitable for all ITE settings and includes a presentation of Cummins’ theoretical model, current issues (the EAL pilot, A Language in Common, meeting the challenge of underachievement) and suggestions for introducing trainees to planning for bilingual learners. The presentation is best used in conjunction with the University of East London PGCE Primary EAL Task File.
