Continuing your professional development

Thinking about developing yourself or your career?
As a teacher, you can take charge of your professional development to further enhance your career and improve your quality of teaching and impact in the classroom.

Professional development consists of reflective activity designed to improve an individual's attributes, knowledge, understanding and skills. It supports individual needs and improves professional practice.

There are many sources of professional development you can choose from, as shown in the diagram below:

Visit the national CPD database where you can find further guidance on continuing your professional development. You can use the tools to search for relevant professional development opportunities and resources amongst thousands that are currently published.

Postgraduate professional development (PPD) is also one approach to sustained and systematic continuing professional development (CPD) for qualified teachers. The scheme gives participants, who must have qualified teacher status (QTS) and be teaching at a school in England, the opportunity to undertake accredited, masters-level courses at a reduced cost at institutions across the country. For further information please go to the PPD pages of our website.
