Resource Area

Author information

The information on this Resource Area has been provided by Dr. Jeffrey Jones (BEd, MEd, MBA, PhD)  of CfBT Education Trust.

CfBT Education Trust is a leading charity providing education services for public benefit in the UK and internationally. Established 40 years ago, CfBT Education Trust now has an annual turnover exceeding £100 million and employs more than 2,000 staff worldwide who support educational reform, teach, advise, research and train.

Since it was founded, CfBT has worked in more than 40 countries around the world. The work involves teacher and leadership training, curriculum design and school improvement services. The majority of staff provide services direct to learners in schools or through projects for excluded pupils, in young offender institutions and in advice and guidance for young people.

Surpluses generated by our operations are reinvested in educational research and development. Our new research programme – Evidence for Education – will improve educational practice on the ground and widen access to research in the UK and overseas.

Since 1999, Dr Jeffrey Jones has been Principal Consultant for CfBT. Formerly a secondary school science teacher, middle and senior manager, he has also held the post of Director of a Professional Development Centre for teachers and an Advisory Teacher. A trainer and consultant both within the UK and overseas, he is also a governor of two schools – a state secondary school in the UK and an International boarding school in Switzerland.

He has written and researched extensively in the areas of professional development, school leadership and performance management, and governance. His latest publications are ‘Management Skills for Schools’ and ‘Developing Effective Teacher Performance’.

A Research Fellow at the University of Reading, he is also a Visiting Professor at the Capital University in Beijing. His current research focuses on accelerated leadership development as a means of preparing high potential staff for school leadership.

Dr Jones is a graduate of the Universities of Bristol, Leicester and Exeter.
